Broken Images WordPress Plugin Homepage

This plugin is designed to “fight” the broken images on your WordPress powered site. It works by inserting a JavaScript snippet in the output HTML code of your pages, which attaches itself to the onError=”..” events of the images, so if an image fails to load, this JS snippet is fired. You can customize what actions you want to perform on the broken images: hide them, style-them, replace them, etc - all this from the WordPress admin panel.

Download

Installation

  1. Download the installation archive and uncompress
  2. Upload the unarchived folder to your plugins directory (this is wp-content/plugins/)
  3. Activate the plugin in your WordPress administration panel (this is the Plugins page)
  4. Configure the plugin from the Options page in the WordPress administration panel
  5. That’s it ;)

Usage

These are the (currently) available options for you to deal with the broken images once you have the wp-broken-images plugin installed.

  • Do nothing
  • Hide the broken images
  • Replace broken images with another one from a specified URL
  • Style the broken images by applying a CSS class to them

Available Options

Note: The “Put CSS class” option replaces the broken images with a transparent one pixel (1x1) GIF image, in order to hide the nasty red cross with which all broken images are marked in Internet Explorer.

Coming Soon

OK, here’s the wish list with the future features:

  • add JS code mode: executing some JS code if an image fails to load
  • add CSS style mode: apply some snippet of CSS rules to an image if it fails to load
  • compose a log of the failed images (which image on which post) + run stats on those logs
  • do a gallery of nice images which to use for the swap mode
  • do a gallery of neat CSS classes which to use for the css mode

  4. Weird, I had to upgrade wp because it didn’t work with 2.1 then I had to upgrade feedwordpress because the upgrade broke it. Then broken images didn’t work anymore. If I turn off feedwordpres it works again.

  10. @baron: Yeah, I think it is - I have it working on on several blogs w/ 2.5 and 2.5.1; the UI seems funky, but it still works
